How to get around in Ibiza – Transportation & Taxis

Navigating around Ibiza without a car can be a bit of a challenge as the only public transportation available is the bus network. We do not have a train or metro system on the island. There is no Uber either. Free Now neither.

However, there are other transportation options available to make your travels easier.

If you’re looking to rent a car, there are numerous rental companies to choose from (read until the end and if you follow the recommendations listed below, you will have a pleasant time).

Keep in mind that depending on where you’re staying, finding parking can be difficult, and it’s always important to prioritize safety, especially if you plan on having a drink.

We will go into details further.

Ibiza by Bus

Discobus

The Discobus, a well-known mode of transportation for party-goers in Ibiza, provides a safe, fun, and affordable way to get around the island. It operates from around midnight to 6:30 am. Last year, Discobus started its schedule from May 28 with and was operational until September 30. We predict a similar schedule for 2023.

Line 3 (San Antonio – Privilege – Amnesia – Pacha – Ibiza)

Line 3B (San Antonio – Playa den Bossa – Dc10 – Ushuaia- Hi)

As a novelty, the new stop in DC10 will be in service on the days that DC10 is open, you can check the schedule of the route to see the departure times for DC10.

A single journey in 2022 was €3, while a card with 5 journeys was €12.

Ibiza by Taxi

There is only one authorized taxi company that operates across the entire island of Ibiza, and it is known as Radio Taxi. You can contact them by dialing the general number +34 971 33 33 33, and the operators speak good English.

At Ibiza Secret Picnic, we advise our guests to download the taxi application called Taxiclick, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. On good days (when the demand is not very high), the app should ideally work in the same fashion as Uber app or other transportation apps that you might be used to. In high season, we learned that this is not the case.

We usually recommend to our guests to assist them in booking private transportation to and from their luxury picnic. For special occasions such as a romantic wedding proposal picnic or if they have an important dinner reservation or event afterwards, it is advised not to rely on taxis.

Our past experience with calling or ordering a taxi through the app has shown that it may not provide an accurate timeframe for the taxi’s arrival.

The operators often don’t have any further information beyond sending a taxi when it’s available, leaving our guests with no updates or callbacks. We have had instances where we waited with our guests for more than an hour and continuously called for updates.

All you can do in these moments is wait.

To ensure that our guests’ unique picnic experience is not overshadowed by transportation delays, we highly suggest letting us help you book a private transport with a reliable company that will wait for you at a scheduled time after the picnic, especially if you’re not driving your own rental car.

Please note that you cannot make taxi reservations via email or pre-book taxis in Ibiza. From your hotel, you can ask the concierge to book it for you when you need one.

If you require a taxi from the airport, simply head to the taxi rank outside and queue up for the next available taxi. The general taxi number does not accept bookings for airport pick-ups either.

Apart from the airport, you can find taxi ranks in towns, ports, major hotels, and resorts across the island. These are marked with blue ‘taxi’ signs, and you can walk up to these locations and take a taxi without booking in advance.

During the summer months, it’s possible that taxis may not stop if you try to hail them on the street. This is because they are likely to be headed to the designated taxi ranks.

Rental Cars

Renting a car in Ibiza is the best way to explore the island at your own pace and discover its many hidden gems. The island’s natural beauty is waiting to be explored and there are many extraordinary places that can only be reached by car.

That being said, there are a few things to keep in mind before you rent a car.

Credit card

First and foremost, you will need a credit card to rent a car with most rental car agencies. Most car rental companies in Ibiza will require a credit card to be presented at the time of rental as a deposit and with at least 1200 – 2000€ available to be put on hold.

If you don’t have one, you may be required to buy the full insurance package or they might even cancel your booking if it is made through a 3rd party. This is because the credit card serves as a form of security for the car rental company in case of any damages or unpaid fines.

Valid Driver’s License

Another important thing to keep in mind when renting a car in Ibiza is to make sure you have a valid driver’s license. If you are younger than 25, you may have to pay an extra fee at the rental desk, depending on which hire company supplies the car.

Affordable and comprehensive option

When it comes to booking a car rental in Ibiza, the most comprehensive option we know of (if you follow the recommendations mentioned here) is booking through the 3rd party website Do You Spain. They offer competitive prices and a wide range of vehicles to choose from.

Please make sure that you select the fuel policy when searching for cars and set it to: full to full. This way, the car rental company will not charge you anything for the fuel, if it is returned with a full tank.

Also, it’s important to compare prices and check reviews before making a final booking.

Parking

It’s also important to note that parking can be difficult in certain areas of Ibiza, especially during peak season. If you’re planning on staying in Ibiza Town, for example, it may be more convenient to stay in a hotel with parking or in a nearby area with easier parking options. Parking might cost between €20 -40€/day.

Inspect the car

Finally, it’s a good idea to inspect the car thoroughly before you drive off the lot and to take photos of any existing damage. This will help you avoid being charged for any damages that were already there when you received the car.

Renting a car in Ibiza can be a great way to see the island and enjoy all that it has to offer. Just be sure to keep these tips in mind to ensure a hassle-free rental experience.

We hope that this guide helps you navigate the transportation options available on the island of Ibiza and we look forward to welcoming you on the white island.
