Beyond the crowds, there is something else we want to be upfront about, because we would rather you hear it from us now than discover it the hard way later.
Spain’s beaches are governed by the Ley de Costas (Coastal Law), which designates the entire beach area, including sand, dunes, and the zone up to the high tide line, as public maritime domain owned by the Spanish state. This means that any kind of commercial installation or styled setup on the beach, including furniture, decor, flower arrangements, and picnic setups organised by a service provider, requires an official permit or concession from the government. These concessions are extremely limited and are generally only granted to permanent beach bars and essential services.
So when we receive an enquiry for a beach picnic proposal setup, our honest answer is that this is not something we can organise as a commercial service provider in the way you might be imagining. Not because we do not want to. We genuinely do. But because we care too much about your experience to offer something that could be disrupted or shut down.
Key restrictions relevant to beach setups include:
• Commercial vendors, vendors, massage therapists, and service providers cannot operate on Ibiza beaches without an official permit — and permits are extremely limited and difficult to obtain.
• Unauthorised tent or structure setups carry fines ranging from €1,500 to €3,000 under the Ley de Costas framework, with local municipalities empowered to enforce their own additional penalties.
• Drone photography over beaches requires a special permit, with fines of up to €3,000 for violations — relevant if you were planning aerial photography for your beach proposal.
• Loud music, sound equipment, and amplified speakers without authorisation are prohibited.
• Alcohol on beaches in Ibiza is restricted, with fines between €100 and €3,000 in tourist-heavy areas.
A Note on Off Season Proposals
If your heart is set on something that feels closer to a beach experience, off season Ibiza is a completely different world. From October through April, beaches are often completely empty. The light is extraordinary. The temperatures are mild and the island is at its most peaceful. If you are considering an autumn or winter proposal, please do reach out.
